CHARACTERS

PETE TOYAMA (34) MD,PHD. Japanese American male born and raised in Manhatten, New York of affluent parents. Well groomed and immaculately dressed. Brilliant. Graduated with MD and PHD. Has a need for control and can be insensitive, yet has a good heart. He fluently speaks five languages. He comes to work as an Interim Medical Director at Sakura Rehabilitation Facility located in Orange County, California

DEE ANN MASUDA (29) RN. Japanese American woman born in Honolulu, Hawaii of middle class parents. She dresses casually and is warmhearted and kind yet is very stubborn in her beliefs. She is easygoing and flexible. She has worked at Sakura Rehabilitation Facility as a Nursing Assistant under Mama Jessie Bishop since her High School years, then  as  an R.N.

PHYLLIS WILLIAMS (45) MD. White woman of German descent. Born and raised in Southern California. She is quadriplegic from a diving accident at age 25. She is the staff Psychiatrist at Sakura Rehabilitation Facility and is known for her directness and “voice of reason” manner. She is well respected. She is good friends with DEE ANN.

MAMA JESSIE BISHOP (65) RN. Matronly African American woman with a mild Southern drawl. She is the cornerstone of this facility, as she has worked here since it first began.. She has a big heart and Staff and Residents flock to her and she readily takes them under her wing. Mama Jessie has a special spot in her heart for DEE ANN and often calls her “baby”

KEVIN EDWARDS (23) Non Verbal Developmentally Disabled young man who is a frequent resident of this facility. He is empathetic and is always seen with his favorite companion, a big teddy bear. He  has a special affinity to Pete.
